The Bering Land Bridge

I had been posting my original cocktails and more detailed descriptions of the creations of other bartenders on a separate blog, but it occurs to me that the content of both are similar enough that it makes sense to combine the two. I hope my cocktail geekery will be a welcome addition to the San Francisco Bar Experiment. Here is my most recent drink, which I will be debuting at a ladies cocktail group later this month:

The Bering Land Bridge

1 ounce potato vodka, infused with vanilla beans, honey and lemon and orange rind for several days.

1/2 ounce Kentucky bourbon, (I used Ancient Age.)

1/4 ounce Liqueur d’Orange

two dashes of Peychaud’s Cocktail Bitters

Add all ingredients to ice in a cocktail shaker or pint glass. Stir thoroughly with a bar spoon until chilled. Strain into an old fashioned champagne glass. Garnish with an orange twist and enjoy.

I’m honestly not the biggest fan of vodka, and one rarely sees it combined with whiskey, but I was challenged to make an original cocktail with it as the main ingredient. Infusing the vodka with vanilla and honey helps the flavors meld better with the whiskey, and the citrus notes obviously go well with the Liqueur d’Orange.
