Can one person drink at every bar in San Francisco?

The Cinch – Polk Street

I have many fond and blurry memories of The Cinch. Once upon a time, when I was still gainfully employed as a bartender, I went to the Cinch every Wednesday with one of my besties to watch Project Runway and play Funky Monkey. As Wednesday was my three hour happy hour shift, I always arrived a little buzzed and flush with one dollar bills to feed into the insatiable MegaTouch machine. Many nights were spent matching numbered barrels while cursing that damned smirking monkey and sucking down lethally potent whiskey-and-gingers.

The Cinch never disappoints. Pleasant and mellow during the day, often raucous at night, the bartenders are always friendly and generous with their pours. The locals are generally quite nice as well, and there is an adorable little patio in the back. I’m not going to lie- I have a Funky Monkey problem, (as of last week I had the number one and two spots on the machine at Encore,) and the two giant MegaTouch consoles are a big draw for me. But the atmosphere is always fantastic, and I wouldn’t play the game for nearly as many hours at any other bar.

Such a fun neighborhoody place. And yes, the bartenders are friendly and generous. I really miss “Charlie Horse” on Friday nights. Just wish this place wasn’t so far outside my usual bar crawl orbit.
