Can one person drink at every bar in San Francisco?

Mark’s Bar – Tenderloin

Mark’s Bar took over the old Lush Lounge space on Polk and Post. To be honest, I kind of miss the old Hollywood theme of Lush, but I like Mark’s cool blue interior and vibe. There is quite a bit of crossover from the regular crowd at Encore with Mark’s Bar, which is a good thing. The patrons are friendly, and there is a strong sense of community. The other night I stumbled upon a patron’s birthday party, and the birthday guy bought a round of drinks for the bar and gave us all delicious dark chocolate cake. This is the type of thing that is commonplace at Encore, and it’s nice to see it continuing at Mark’s.

What I like most about Mark’s is that it provides a contrast to the very young, very wasted bad-dance-party/pickup-joint bar scene that Polk Street has become. Mark’s is fun and vibrant, but the crowd is a little bit older and much more varied. Sometimes Mark’s Bar does blare dance music, but sometimes you can just kick back and watch Family Guy with the bartender on a slow night or sing along with the other patrons to show tunes on the jukebox.
