Can one person drink at every bar in San Francisco?

Comstock Saloon – North Beach

Comstock Saloon was the fifth and final stop on my one night mini-tour of North Beach. The bar is heavenly, a small space with most of the original fixtures and not much changed in the hundred or so years since it was built. When you walk in the door, every detail transports you to another world, a world where cocktails and bar snacks are elevated to a level unknown on Earth.

It’s easy to get sucked into the leather bound menu, but for drinks the way to go is really the “Barkeep’s Whimsy”, which gives over all control of your order to the bar. The bartenders at Comstock relish in the indecisiveness that drives  most drink slingers insane, and there is no way you will end up with a cocktail that is anything less than slightly mind blowing. Just sit back, relax, and allow the bartenders to take you on a journey of the senses.

Comstock Saloon is one of the most expensive bars I have ever visited, but you definitely get plenty of bang for your (many) bucks. It’s worth a trip even if you only get one cocktail before heading to cheaper waters, and as Comstock is in the heart of North Beach, you won’t have to wander far.
