Can one person drink at every bar in San Francisco?

Badlands – Castro

First of all, Badlands is darker than dark, hence the lack of good photos. Sarcastically known as Sadlands by its regulars and detractors alike, Badlands is the archetypal gay bar. Rather than sticking to any one genre or theme, the music played is the greatest gay pop hits of the last four decades from Abba to Justin Bieber to Cher and back again. The highlight of our trip there was the Lady Gaga rock block that had the whole bar dancing and singing along.

Despite the fact that Badlands is pretty interchangeable with other loud, shiny, crowded Castro bars, it’s actually quite fun. The drinks of course are strong and cheap, and the bar has a great dance floor surrounded by music video screens. It’s too loud to allow for actual conversation, but a couple of drinks in and any thoughts other than dancing and checking out boys fly out of one’s head.
