Can one person drink at every bar in San Francisco?

Tommy’s Joynt – Van Ness

Tommy’s Joynt is in the gray area between restaurant and bar, people definitely go there just for the bar, and the restaurant is mostly separated upstairs. The reason I am including it in the Experiment is that it is heaven for late night carnivores.

Tommy’s has a full bar and serves old fashioned meat dishes such as brisket and pastrami sandwiches until 2:00 a.m., a true rarity in this early-to-bed city. It’s San Francisco’s great equalizer, bringing hipsters, seniors, drunken sports fans, and Midwestern tourists together to worship at the alter of meat and booze.

Everything in the bar is shabby and dingy, but somehow it creates the perfect atmosphere for enjoying the food. Being in Tommy’s feels like being in a family restaurant from the 70’s that hasn’t been changed since.
