Can one person drink at every bar in San Francisco?

The Cafe – Castro

The Cafe is not meant to be experienced while sober, and to get the true Cafe experience, one needs to go on a weekend when the weather is nice. The bar is huge, and the layout is really strange, but when its packed with people dancing to the frantic dance music, you’ll never notice the bizarre floor plan.

Everything is white and brightly lit, which doesn’t make for a cozy atmosphere on slower nights. The Cafe makes up for this by offering happy hour specials from 5:00 p.m. until close on their off nights. It feels a bit strange to be in The Cafe on a school night, but they do have billiards for entertainment and a nice patio, plus a tiny balcony with a beautiful view of the Castro.

The Cafe also has two of my favorite addictions, Mega Touch and Galaga.

Agreed. Strange layout. Their recent renovation/redesign is bewilderingly sterile and generic. I feel like I’m trapped in a no name airport, somewhere in flyover country, suffering through an unwanted layover. (Not that its previous incarnation had much character either. But at least this version doesn’t look ‘soiled’.) But truthfully I am not a fan of the crowd. At all.
