Can one person drink at every bar in San Francisco?

The White Horse – Lower Nob Hill

I actually stumbled into The White Horse on my way home from the last bar in Chinatown. Hungry, tired, and feeling a bit woozy from the Worst Sidecar Ever, their sidewalk sign advertising free hot dogs glowed like a beacon in the night. Even assuming the food wood be mediocre at best, I couldn’t resist the idea of getting free dinner with the purchase of another cocktail.

And to my surprise, the hot dogs were good! No, they were fantastic. There was a hot dog machine(!) set up in the back room, full of giant, delectable hot dogs, and the condiments provided even included sauerkraut. The drinks were not terribly expensive either, and the bar had a very cozy feel to it; it’s the type of place you can go and strike up a conversation with your fellow drinkers or friendly bartender and totally lose track of time.

I have no idea if the free hot dogs are a regular thing, but if they are, I may find myself being a regular patron.

Next stop: The Castro!
