Can one person drink at every bar in San Francisco?

Aunt Charlie’s Lounge – Tenderloin

I didn’t realize Aunt Charlie’s charges cover, so I only made it into the doorway. I will probably go back on a non Experiment related trip, as a lot of my friends really love that bar.

Agreed with the anti-cover. And I’m with your friends. Here’s something I wrote years ago now about how much I love Aunt Charlie’s.

I don’t think they always charge cover. Is it not a bar by your definition if it only sometimes charges cover?

    • I’m including Aunt Charlie’s in my book (assuming it gets fully funded,) so I plan on making a visit later this month. I’m actually quite excited, because for some reason I have never actually made it inside, despite hearing so many great things about the bar from my friends.

No, they don’t always charge covers. Only for the nights that they have full-on drag shows. Or club nites w/djs + drag shows. But that’s not til later in the evenings. Generally, there is no cover.

Yeah, I mean, I don’t think you could focus on the TL and not include “Aunt Charlies”. No matter what time of day, it is a true dive bar. Post-work into the early evening is definitely a perfect time to experience the hardcore regulars and assorted oddball crowd tragic ambience. Not to mention the vivid slice of life that is that block.
